# How to use Zoom: volume, raising your hand, and reactions

If you're new to Zoom or joining from a phone, here are the most commonly needed features during RHW coaching calls.

**How to turn up the volume:**

On your phone:

- Press the physical volume-up button on the side of your phone several times to increase the volume
- Check the top left corner of your Zoom screen for a speaker icon with an "x" — if you see it, tap it once to unmute the audio

If your screen appears black with no controls visible, tap the center of the screen once to wake up the controls.

**How to raise your hand:**

1. Tap the screen once to bring up the bottom menu bar
2. Tap the Reactions button — it looks like a smiley face with a plus sign
3. If you don't see Reactions, tap the three dots labeled "More" in the bottom right corner
4. Tap "Raise Hand" (shown with a yellow hand icon)
5. To lower your hand after speaking, tap the same location and select "Lower Hand"

**How to send a heart reaction ❤️:**

1. Tap Reactions in the bottom menu
2. Select the heart emoji from the options that appear
